I've been thinking about using investment as a means to increase funds available for conservation. Eg, set up land trusts in which people can own and resell units of land under conservation covenants. My reservation is that given global warming, resource depletion, population expansion it can only be seen as an extremely high risk investment. Would this be an ethical thing to do? I wouldn't want to be the Madoff of private reserves.
What do you think?
